The main problem with this list is the Blues Brothers were a real band, BEFORE the movie. They did a short tour and recorded an album BEFORE the movie was ever even shot.
Spinal Tap was created in a movie, but they also did a tour, and played as recently as Live Earth.
And what about The Archies!?!?!?

Lily Chou-chou is the queen of fake bands. Quentin Tarantino even used her on the Kill Bill soundtrack.
