One day, Heath Buck and Douglas Campbell, who have never met before, dared each other to go on a travel adventure. The night ended with a drunken handshake – and six months later, the two embarked on a crazy journey from Hong Kong to London, via Vietnam, Tibet, Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan …
What’s so crazy about that? Well, besides going on around the world with a complete stranger, the whole journey is to be done wearing tuxedoes …
TMZ brings you this strange story of the hazards of being rich:
Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband, the wacky Freddy von Anhalt, 64, was photographed after a trio of women robbers (he says) pulled up next to him, asked for a photo, but instead robbed him at gunpoint and left him naked and cuffed to his Rolls-Royce. Don’t ya just hate when that happens?

Scientists at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia found that the office laser printer can be hazardous to your health:
An investigation of a range of printer models showed that almost a third emit potentially dangerous levels of toner into the air. [...]
Conducted in an open-plan office, the test revealed that particle levels increased five-fold during working hours, a rise blamed on printer use.
The problem was worse when new cartridges were used and when graphics and images required higher quantities of toner.

If Chris Angel can levitate, then so can Shoko Asahara, the cult leader of Aum Shinrikyo crazies in Japan:
He came to public notice through an article in the popular "Twilight Zone" magazine that showed him supposedly levitating in a yoga pose. Yoga exponents had practiced the technique, which consisted of flexing the thigh muscles to imitate levitation, for centuries.

Iranian weavers have created what they claim is the world’s largest handmade carpet, a soccer-field-sized red-and-green colossus bound for an Abu Dhabi mosque and valued at $5.8 million. But Iranians are setting their sights even higher:
[Jalaleddin Bassam, the head of Iran's state carpet company,] said the carpet was an important commission for Iran’s carpet-making industry, and said it could lead to further orders.
“Iran is in talks to make similar carpets for Oman and other Gulf countries,” he told Agence France-Presse.

Lunch in a Box blog has a post about making your very own pig-shaped boiled egg, using a nifty Japanese (what else?) contraption improvised into an egg mold:
I figured they’d work just fine as ice cream sandwich molds, cookie cutters, and onigiri molds, but I was most curious about how they’d do as hard-boiled egg shapers. You may have seen these crazy gadgets before (photo below): you hard-boil an egg, peel it while it’s hot, pop it into a plastic mold while it’s still hot and pliant, and click the lid shut. Dump the whole thing into cold water for 10 minutes, and you’ve got an egg that looks like a rabbit head or a star.

Even with all the broadcast indecency brouhaha, some broadcasters still get in hot water for choosing (and getting okayed by the regulators!) horribly bad station call letters:
The call letter snafu was a source of great mirth for Bae’s attorney.
"I can’t tell you how long he laughed at me when he learned of my gaffe," Bae said.
Broadcasters for generations have joked among themselves about call letters resembling off-color words or acronyms knowing the FCC would never approve their assignment — but that was before computerization.
What’s the call letters? You’ve got to read to find out: Link – via The Good Reverend
Englishmen Rich Smith and Bateman came to the United States to commit a crime spree – that is, by breaking as many stupid, unreasonable and long-forgotten laws (that are still on the book!).
For example, did you know that handwalking across the street is illegal in Hartford, Connecticut? Or that peeling an orange in a hotel room is Los Angeles is a no-no?
The pair documents their cross country journey in their book You Can Get Arrested for That.

Why do slim people dislike those who are fat? Researchers at the University of British Columbia discovered that it may actually be an immune system response:
From the taunting of the chubby child in the playground to cruel jibes at fat people in work and social settings, few could doubt there is widespread prejudice against the overweight. However, according to research reported in Evolution and Human Behavior some people suffer abuse because being too fat is mistaken by the brain for a sign of disease.
Researchers say the immune system can be triggered into action at the sight of obesity because it doesn’t like the look of what it sees, and associates it with infection.
Just as it orchestrates attacks on viruses and bacteria and triggers nausea at the hint of bad food, so it sends out signals of disgust in some people at the sight of an obese body that is designed to encourage avoidance and survival.
