Restored Lotus Esprit

Simon Pritchard had just started an 18-month, £25,000 (~$50,000) restoration of a 25 year old Lotus Esprit when he was hospitalized due to multiple mini strokes. Amazingly, when fellow members of an online car enthusiast forum heard of Simon’s plight, they decided to come together and surprise him by restoring the car in secret.

With the help of hundreds of people, the car was completely restored in only five weeks, and Simon had the surprise of his life when finally reunited with the Lotus. Link [BBC News]

That was really cool of those guys. Know what would have been cooler? A restoration of any car besides a Lotus Esprit.

isn’t there something, you know, productive they could have done with that money?

So the guy goes into the hospital for “several mini-strokes” so his friends decide the best thing to would be to surprise him?

    - It’s still amazing that a whole bunch of people decided to do something nice, out of the blue, for a fellow with health issues.

    - Lotus Esprit are one of the coolest cars around ever.

    - If we dedicated all of our resources at productive things, there would be no movies, no internet, no neatorama, no vacation, no pets, no laugh, no love and no comments on blogs.

    Neatorama isn’t productive?

Doesn’t anyone else think that maybe putting someone who just suffered several mini-strokes behind the wheel of a high-powered sports car might not be the best idea?

But being a Lotus Esprit enthusiast site, Mr Great White, maybe it was appropriate?

Meg, Maybe the £6500 we raised for Macmillan last year on the same site?

The big man also has Reiters Syndrome, so no, there was nothing more appropriate than helping someone and showing them that there are people that care.
