Ooh, I've always thought it's spelled "vermillion" with two Ls, but it turns out you're right rich mayo, it's "vermilion" with one L. Fixed now on the post.

The word "vermilion" itself, which means reddish orange, can be spelled both ways.

both spellings are acceptable.

This is one of hundreds of unique and amazing places in southern utah.

I was just out at the wave in May it's awesome, i was alone the whole time until i passed a group of 4 german tourists on my way out.

here's a clip on youtube(the wave section starts at about 4:00)

Thanks - great find.

(Imagine, I once spent 1 year in Utah and never heard of that park. Then again, I was a teenager then...)

Does the Utah Parks Department really misspell "vermilion?"

wow cool. I think the effect would be lost though, if there were a bunch of other tourists around.

Nothing ruins the moment more than a crowd.

I drove through this area on a roadtrip I took back in April, and although I didn't see this particulat spot, the drive down US-89 between Panguitch, Kanab and Page is one of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen. Until you see it yourself, it's hard to believe rocks even exist in the deep shades of red you find down there.
