This Indian commercial takes a grim subject (the plight of widows) and turns it on its ear. The result is surprisingly funny. Push play or go to YouTube. -via Ectoplasmosis

India is a great country with lots of tradition and culture - still, they've *got* to do something with the caste system and their treatment of widows.

Another link to see is Vrindavan: The City of Widows, where thousands of widows come to await death. Ostracized by society, these women sometimes lived on the street and can only work as beggars. Shameful.

i came to post that i really liked the commercial. but alex, everything you said...makes it not so great. that is shameful that widows must be beggars. it's strange how traditions like this are so hard for cultures to let go of. still, apart from that, it's a clever commercial.

Nothing about the plight of widows in India is in any way funny. I suggest watching the movie water. Alex is right, You cannot hide abuse under the guise of culture.
