The secrets behind PostSecret.

150_1-lifetimeofsecrets_lowres.jpgdescriptionofimage

PostSecret began three years ago as a creative idea for an art show exhibit, which just happened to change Frank Warren’s life. With a background in small business, Warren is a self-described, “accidental artist.” PostSecret is not a business. He forgoes profit on what is the largest advertisement-free site on the web.

Frank Warren tells the story of how PostSecret came about and became an internet phenomenon in a very short time. Link -via Cynical-C

Your post says “largest advertisement-free site on the web”, but PostSecret’s site says “largest advertisement-free BLOG on the web”.

I’m pretty sure that there are larger sites on the web without advertising (eg. almost any government site, any large university’s web site, etc.).

While I don’t konw if PostSecret is actually the largest ad free blog, the claim is much more reasonable.

The part in italics is a quote from the linked article.

postsecret bothers me in that its so predominately depressing to read. i wish there were more positive postings, though I understand that people are more likely to send in the negative postcards because it is cathartic. I guess I’ll have to stick to FOUND for my weird insights into humanity.

Hi everybody - I’m the senior editor of the online magazine that interviewed Frank Warren - we really love this story because Frank got a chance to explain why he started the whole thing in the first place - his own secrets. His site really does tie us all together, b/c we all have a secret.

he’s just one of many fascinating people we have interviewed…why don’t you drop in to http://www.orato.com and peruse our archives and categories.

Better yet - post your own story.

    Sincerely,
    Heather Wallace
