Squirrels Torch Man’s House. Twice.

Posted by Alex in Animal, Home & Garden, Pictures on June 21, 2007 at 5:11 pm

Here are some squirrels that definitely deserves the controversial catapult treatment previously posted on Neatorama:

If you think Alan Turcott has bad luck, just think of the squirrels in his neighborhood.

For the second time in eight days, Turcott’s Blue Island home caught fire when squirrels knocked high-voltage wires loose from a utility pole and onto his three-story house, fire officials said.

Shouldn’t those lines be held securely in place by the power company who installed them? Designed not be easily knocked off by a small animal? So, how exactly does this become the fault of the squirrel in which you can say it deserves violent retribution possible resulting in injury or death?

is this just a lame way to justify not removing a video containing animal cruelty? .. just remove the video!

Catapulting squirrels is NOT funny. It’s unspeakably cruel. The squirrel does NOT understand what it’s doing when it knocks the power line loose and will certainly not understand its “punishment”. You people who think cruelty to animals is funny need some sensitivity training about animal suffering. Shame on you!

Lots of power outages are caused by squirrels getting into high voltage boxes and frying themselves. Pernicious little devils, they are.

Excellent riposte to the previous squirrel post, by the way. Next time, somebody abuses a dog or cat, we could have a post about how dogs bite people or cats kill songbirds.

    (lol. I think I’m becoming a S#!+ disturber)

Wow. “You people” that honestly think a colander attached to bungee cords could even remotely injure a squirrel have obviously not paid very much attention to squirrels in nature. A squirrel’s tail is like a parachute, and you can even see in the video that the squirrel was already reorienting itself, much like a cat when it falls.

Leave the squirrels alone. Humans are destroying everything they touch on the planet, like irresponsible children. Leave the freaking animals alone, that’s so shallow it’s repulsive.

No one knows why, but on destructive activity squirrels love to do is peal the insulation off of electrical wires. I guess they think they are debarking a limb to lick the juices. Thousands of attic fires are caused by squirrels every year. Even when they die, their bodies can catch on fire and burn a house down.

The Catapulting squirrels video was funny. Squirrels are just rats with a bushy tail.

Last time I’ll post on this subject.

Instead of screaming about how you “feel” or what you “think”, simply look up the facts.

In all of three minutes I found numerous references on the resilience of squirrels. They routinely jump 35 feet from trees to the ground.

Also, if you haven’t noticed, this blog routinely posts things like this to get folks riled up. This is as far as I know the first time it linked to a previous controversial post to get more mileage.

I “think/feel” that this whole thing is hilarious. Keep up the good work Neatorama.

    Annoying morans is fun.

I’m just posting to say that I visit neatorama.com daily, and while many understandably don’t find the “nudge the animal sympathizers” posting (did it have to happen twice? why would a site typically so fun-oriented have to rub our faces in this? it’s a little bit ugly) I don’t like it and I won’t be returning here. I don’t care if my single visit matters, I just won’t subscribe to you anymore because you people have some issues to work out with your blog posters. That or you’re collectively insensitive and this blog as a whole is disingenuous.

Hahaha… I love comments like georges here. “Don’t post stuff like this or I’ll go to mummy and cry and never ever come back”. Just brilliant…

I love how people get so up in arms about animals being “hurt” when everyday thousands of people are suffering worse than any squirrel. BUT LETS NOT THINK ABOUT THAT BECAUSE THERE IS A POOR WITTLE SQUIRREL BEING LAUNCHED ALL OF 10 FEET!

WATCH OUT YOU JUST STEPPED ON AN ANT YOU CRUEL CRUEL PERSON! WAIT IS THAT A MICROBE YOU JUST SNEEZED OUT OF EXISTANCE?! HOW COULD YOU?!

    :)
