I actually had my lens replaced as a child about 15 years ago. They removed my lens and replaced it with a glass lens. I believe nowadays they use a better plastic lens.

However, if you click to the link, that’s not what this story is about. It looks like they’ve actually clipped a new lens to the front of this guys eyes. It’s kind of like wearing glasses without the hassle. There’s some neat up close shots at the link too. Cool story!

Interocular implants have been available for a long time for cataract patients. My 84-year-old mother was operated on in 1985 and still has 20/20 vision as a result.

I had lenses implanted in both eyes after cataract surgery a few years ago, and was able to ditch my glasses after many decades of having to wear them. Liberation! (I do need glasses to read and drive at night, though.)

I have it too, since last year. I don’t think this is uncommon, although not as common as lasik because it’s more expensive.

I had this done too! It’s called ICL (at least where I am) and it’s fantastic for people who aren’t candidates for Lasik due to thin corneas and other reasons.

Wow, if I had known I could have made Neatorama, I would have let you know when I had this done, 3 years ago.
