There’s no reason why she can’t “impersonate” Mao in terms of putting a respectable face on him for propaganda purposes and whatnot. Like in the U.S. there are plenty of people who impersonate important past U.S. figures but in terms of highlighting history and whatnot.
I doubt she’s trying out for a las vegas show.

You know it’s kind of interesting because last month, my boss was showing me a picture he took with this lady (I live in Beijing). People around here are more ‘Oh, she looks like Mao’ than ‘Oh noes she’s mocking Mao! Must. kill. her.’ The government is not that bloodthirsty. Unless a crazy person does something stupid like throw a Molotov cocktail at Mao’s portrait in Tianmen. Which also happened last month.

dodgyd55, i think as long as its a respectful impersonation and not a mockery or satire, its all good.

Ahhh, Mao, purveyor of that wonderful “Great Leap Forward”.
Wouldn’t it be cool if (in Mao garb!) she tried to block a tank or something in a military parade, echoing the patriot who did the same during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests? I’ll bet she’d “disappear” even more quickly! The Red Chinese have no humor for people who don’t toe the line.
