Twins from Different Mothers.

These pregnant mothers recently delivered the first set of twins born to different mothers. This happened because doctors didn't believe that biological mother Amy Bernaba (right) would be able to carry a baby due to immune system problems, so they implanted her fertilized eggs into both her and a surrogate. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23399945-details/World%27s+first+twins+born+to+two+different+women/article.do (via digg)

At the very least they could have tried implanting it into the biological mother a couple months before they tried implanting it into the surrogate. I'm all for surrogacy if you don't want to adopt and can't have a stable pregnancy, but honestly...it seems a little short-sighted to go "Hey let's implant it into the biological mother as well! It wont take, so who cares, at least we'll have one from the surrogate!"

i don't see how this really fits the definition of "twinning". would they still be considered twins if the actual biological mother had one embryo that gestated now and another one from the same harvest two years down the road?

they're really just siblings that will likely be born right around the same time.
