Some kind of noose used to subdue animals; maybe some kind of medium sized mammal or reptile.

It looks very similiar to an antique CNR ‘message conveyance’ stick I saw a while ago at an antique store here in Whistler BC (they wanted $225 for the damn thing). Paper notes were held in the clip and placed stratigically beside the rails at a height where railway employees would reach over and grab by the loop (or drop off) while aboard a moving train. These sticks quickly travelled back and forth across Canada, making a free and efficient national inter-office memo system of sorts.

It is a Dowsing Rod used to locate things through paranormal means.
One of the most commonly known uses for dowsing is to locate water.

It is a Souple Weaver. In the little known religous sect of Wemblism, started by Charley (Chas) Wemble, it is held that all things are interrelated and that all of mankinds sufferings are a form of disease. To realign all elements of the temporal world and cure said disease, the afflicted is passed through the loop of the souple weaver, be it a person, a broken pencil, or a newspaper article about a disaster. The Wembleists disbanded in 1934 when their leader, Chas, went to prison for forgery.

I concur that this is for passing train orders to moving trains. However, it was held high by the station agent and the trainman on board would put his arm through the loop.

This simple yet highly effective device is a rhino tooth/tuck flosser. Simply place loop over desired tooth to de-tartar, wiggle against base of tooth and quickly pull up. Warning: watch for flying tooth/food debries!

It’s the recently excavated skeleton of an ancient breed of giant killer frogs — this one was in its tadpole stage when it died.

Number 4 and 12 have it right - used to pass up orders from the agent to the crew on the railroads. This is an older design.

Wow, guessed right in just 4 comments - congrats to Chief Ten Bear who got it right. Also to Randall, with the most creative answer (although I do like LA Payne’s rhino flosser very much!)
