What kind of line of thought does it take to accept ‘modern’ market economy where you buy stuff but there is no provision for dealing with byproducts?

In this picture I see plastic bags, wrappers, styrofoam, the man is holding a glass bottle, all sign of modern living, yet, all the trash is tossed in a river.

I am puzzled.

Absolutely terrible
