I’m sure I would like it. Cuccumber is light and refreshing. I’m not sure what would be disgusting about that. Lucky Japanese are getting all the good stuff.

Cool. I’d try it but we never get anything interesting North America, land of the safe and bland.

I tried a drink recipe from India that combined yogurt, cucumber, ice, and pepper. It is surprisingly cooling and refreshing.

You know, there should be some sort of mathematical equation for why Japanese like this sort of disgusting shit. Don’t get me wrong, I like cucumbers, but to drink? :X

I worked as a cod milt (read: sperm) sorter in AK for a Japanese export company. Evidently, they put it in soup.

I think it goes back to an old tradition.
In “days of yore” a summer treat in Japan, was to pick fresh cucumber from the garden, and cool it in a stream for a few hours before eating.
Cucumbers probably just got intergrated into culture and something “cold, and refreshing”. Much like watermelon, or oranges.

Cucumber is actually a really good drink. Like Miss Cellania mentioned, I’ve also had a yoghurt/cucumber drink that was sweetened. It tasted a lot like fresh melon (not fake watermelon flavor, but like the taste of a real melon).
