This gives you an idea of how difficult it was to make progress in a war that spanned five years. There’s a date and casualty counter in the corner. Push play or go to YouTube. -via Reddit

I'm only familiar with many incidents in the Civil War, so this overview was fantastic!

Amazing piece, somehow it was also moving, very powerful. To think of how many lives were lost in those five years is even staggering to this day.

This animation is actually from the Lincoln Museum in Springfield, IL. If you haven't been there, and your even marginally interested, you owe it to yourself to go.

I watched at work without any sound...it was moving...I had no idea how slow the progress of the North was, nor how far north the South progressed...so many deaths...
