Hawking is an amazing man and I'm so happy to see him get to do what very few have ever had. This is as close to space as he'll ever get to.

These made me a bit teary eyed.

What a great set of pictures! Just awesome.

Shades of Heinlein and Bonenstall! The imaginings, the suggestions and the musings of those old science fiction stories are showing remarkable staying power. They are also fulfilling a lifelong dream - that I would live to see at least the first small steps into space being taken not by highly trained specialists but by regular guys, like you and me. For Dr. Hawking to be among the very first not only lends credence to my hope, it is also this:

That diligent study, careful experiment, application of known principles and enthusiasm can combine to create such a wonderful scenario. That Hawking, without muscular control a true slave to gravity, can be seen by all of us to exult in its absence and find a deep invigoration is a fine metaphor to highlight a possible future for all of us.

I exult with Dr. Hawking.

You mean your poop isn't red? ;)

I'd believe him if he said <em>"my poop is now green"</em> ... particularly if he just drank a whole can of Purplesaurus Rex Kool-Aid. Try it for yourself ... a couple glasses and you'll be dropping bright green presents by the morning.

I found this out the hard way after drinking a whole 48oz can at a birthday party as a kid. My parents thought I had contracted some strange disease and frantically took me to the doctors.

I agree with Tim. Tears come to my eyes as I watched the man whose mind travels further than any of ours to understand the universe and our beginnings be lifted to the very strata of his dreams. If I could cure just a fraction of the people on earth, he is at the front of the line....

Nothing has made me smile more than this article in a very, very long time. The man is amazing and deserved the charity of the flight owner. I would believe anything hawking says, even if it was "poop is now red", and in the morning, I'll be damned if it ain't red.
He's right, this world is in for a big shake up. I'd rather be off world on my way to where ever.
