Radia Cell Phone

I hate design studies – they get you really excited but rarely make it into production. For this cell phone design, I am praying that it will make it.

As cellular phones become a standard, the statement they make as a symbol and a fashion accessory has become increasingly important. The Radia phone concept expresses simplicity in form and sophistication in function and user interface. The outer rim, which is made of brushed aluminum makes both a refined professional statement. The touch-display is large enough to read and display many types of information, yet small enough to maintain a pocket-sized device. Linkvia

Pocket-sized? Yeah, maybe if you have Ronald McDonald pants or something. That sucker’s the size of a dessert plate.

Ergonomics? We don’t need no stinking Ergonomics!

That’s a classy bit of design even if it is just a concept.

It is cool looking but for the reasons above would never fly – the ergonomic one alone sinks it for me: how the hell do I find the earhole and get it on my ear without looking at it? The Treo I have now is hard enough because the hole’s not a hole but a bump, and it’s a normal rectangle, which kind of telegraphs which end’s up. I suppose a metal barb would do the trick but just don’t think I’d enjoy the permanent scab that might result. Bluetooth is the only answer to that question but there remain others ….

And where’s the second half of this thought: “makes both a refined professional statement.” And what? Using “both” requires the use of “and” and a second concept.
