Peep and Candy Mash Up.

Posted by Alex in Food & Drink on April 7, 2007 at 10:33 am

Have we been posting a lot of Peeps post lately? Well, here’s one more from the Candy Blog: Peeps Mash Up!

Peeps Nerds – when you look at it, a Peep is really just a giant spongy Nerd with a pointy nose. Oh, and eyes. Nerds may have eyes in their little cartoon versions on the packaging, but not on the real candies like Peeps do.

Rap Covered by Non-Rap Artists.

Posted by Alex in Music on April 7, 2007 at 10:33 am

FanTent has a neat collection of YouTube videos featuring rap songs covered by non-rap artists.

See Nina Gordon cover Straight Outta Compton by NWA (believe it or not, Neato covered this a while back!), The Gourds cover Gin and Juice by Snoop Dog, Gilbert and Sullivan’s mashup of Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot, and more!

Excellent! Link [um, yeah, NSFW lyrics and some images - whaddaya expect?] – Thanks FanTent!

Printing with DNA.

Posted by Alex in Book & Literature on April 7, 2007 at 10:33 am

Japanese company Ko-sin Printing has developed a printing process that allows you to incorporate your DNA into the ink used to print a book.

Once DNA is extracted from a human (or animal) hair or nail sample provided by the author, it is blended with a special ink and used in the printing process. Ko-sin has already put the technology to use in some self-published autobiographies whose title pages are printed with ink that includes the author’s DNA. Mixing DNA in with the ink does not alter the appearance of the page, the company says.

Ko-sin also claims it is possible to extract genetic information from materials printed using this process. When the company sent a sample page to a DNA laboratory, the lab technicians were able to isolate and extract the DNA from the page.

Everything you want to know about Peeps in two minutes and a half, courtesy of ABC News webcast:

In these weeks before Easter, known to fans as peak Peep season, some 600 million will be gobbled up. That’s enough Peeps to circle the equator. Twice! Wal-Mart alone sells enough to stretch from New York to LA.

And yes, here’s Venus de Peepo that you’ll see in the clip and its inspiration.

Blood on the I-495? Nah, Just Red Dye.

Posted by Alex in Auto & Transportation, Travel on April 7, 2007 at 10:31 am

Is that blood on Interstate 495 in Massachusetts? Nope, just some spilled wood-chip dye:

"I thought it was blood at first — then I almost slid into the big metal canister that was oozing orange stuff," Stirk said.
