"I am Not a Nazi" Swastika.
Here’s an online gallery of "I’m not a Nazi" Swastika at Heathen World:
The Swastika has been in use by humans since prehistory. The word Swastika has its roots in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India, but the actual symbol is older. Swastikas have been found on vases, coins, and other artifacts all over the world. Various cultures that probably didn’t communicate used swastikas or similar symbols independent of each other. The Swastika has been a Hindu symbol for thousands of years. …
The Nazi use of the swastika has stained the symbol’s reputation for a long damned time. Hitler’s adoption of the swastika is logical when looked at in a historical context.
The gallery is very interesting: Link – via Happy Ant

Famous Balloon Movies
I wanted to post a whole bunch of videos but then the post will fill up the front page of Neatorama. So, I decided to pick my favorite instead: ‘Floating in the Rain’:
You’ll laugh for sure. The project is described as follows:
An independent director (who asked to remain nameless, but often works for Disney), did these sequences a few years ago for an overseas theme park project. The show was an homage to classic movies, tied together by a running gag of a stray balloon that gets loose. The director added the balloon using After Effects and did an amazing job matching each film’s cinematic style. The balloon subplot was eliminated from the project, but the director has now posted a bunch of his test clips on YouTube.
Those balloons are seamlessly introduced into the movie. Here’s a full list of chapters as links to Youtube videos:
Chapter 1: Balloon Last
Chapter 2: CasaBalloona
Chapter 3: Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid’s Balloon
Chapter 4: BalloonTravels North by Northwest
Chapter 5: BalloonStrikes Back
Chapter 6: Casabaloona (the come)
Chapter 7: Balloonikita
Chapter 8: Floatting in the Rain
Chapter 9: The Balloonof Oz
Chapter 10: The French Balloon Connection

Solar Eclipse.

This week’s collaboration with Cellar Image of the Day brings us this amazing picture of a solar eclipse in 2006:
This photo was taken last year by Miloslav Druckmuller and Peter Aniol from the Libyan desert. It is a composite of 231 photos taken with a battery of 5 cameras on a variety of telescopic lenses ranging in focal lengths from 200mm to 1680mm.
The multiple shots were necessary to catch different aspects of the eclipse that one shot could not. One camera’s exposure must be set to capture the face of the moon. Another must be set for the coronal rays, one to capture stars….etc etc.
Notice how far the coronal rays flare out!!
This small picture really doesn’t do it justice: to see how amazing the pic really is, go to Cellar Image of the Day: Link.

More Strange Statues Around the World: The Shark.
The guys behind the Strange Statues around the World at haha.nu came up with a dedicated website to keep track of these strange statues. This one is The Headington Shark:
The Shark became the most famous resident of Headington when it landed in the roof of 2 New High Street (see map) on 9 August 1986.
This ordinary home (built as a semi-detached house in about 1860 but now attached by a link to a second house to the north) suddenly became the centre of world attention, and the headless shark still excites interest today.

Jellyfish with Eyes. Lots of Eyes.

Unlike normal jellyfish, the box jellyfish have 24 eyes (similar to our own) that help them avoid bumping into obstacles as they swim around the ocean.
The eyes of box jellyfish are located on cup-like structures that hang from their cube-shaped bodies.
Whereas we have one set of multi-purpose eyes that sense color, size, shape and light intensity, box jellyfish have four different types of special-purpose eyes. The most primitive set detects only light levels, but one set of eyes is more sophisticated and can detect the color and size of objects.
One of these eyes is located on the top of the cup-like structure, the other on the bottom, which provides the jellyfish with “an extreme fish-eye view, so it’s watching almost the entire underwater world,” said Garm, who will present his research at the Society of Experimental Biology’s annual meeting, in Scotland.

Te land ter zee en in de lucht.
Te land ter zee en in de lucht is a TV show that has been amusing the Dutch for 36 years. From Wikipedia:
Contestants must race along a track in self-made vehicles. Most parts of the game take place above water, and getting to the end of the track without becoming wet is nearly impossible. But to win, you’ll have to be the fastest who reaches the end of the track, without becoming wet.
The show is recorded in various locations throughout The Netherlands and Belgium. Push play or go to YouTube.
