Ramenskoye [wiki] is a town southeast of Moscow in Russia. The town has these very neat painted residential buildings! LinkThanks Allen!

This is fantastic. I went to Zagreb in 2000, and it was horrible. I couldn't even stay a day when I saw all the dull gray of the giant apartment blocks.

There was a cover story in the New Yorker in the summer of 05 about the mayor of the town, whose idea this was. It made very interesting reading.

Oh, I should add the cover art of the issue I referenced was a portrait of the mayor in the same style (and color pallete!) of the buildings.
