Gung Hay Fat Choy! 恭喜发财! Today is the Lunar New Year’s Day, {wiki} ushering in the Year of the Pig. The celebration is 15 days long, with different traditional activities for each day. It ends with the Lantern Festival, which is on March 3rd this year. Since it’s a lunar calendar, these holidays fall on different dates each year. In honor of the occasion, Retrocrush has published The Greatest Porkers in Pop Culture History. Link

Its interesting about the phrase Gung Hay Fat Choy because my Chinese friends say Gong Xi Fa Cai.

Whatever, happy lunar new year to all.

I had considered both spellings, and went with the one a non-Chinese speaker would more likely try to pronounce. Someone who speaks Chinese would recognize the attempt!

Gung Hay Fat Choy is cantonese, Gong Xi Fa Cai is mandarin. Both means Happy New Year!

Ah! Leave it to me to say Chinese-speaker when there are two Chinese languages (hits head). My daughter is studying Mandarin.

    Only two?
I thought there were hundreds of dialects.
