Through the Eyes of a Homeless Boy

This photograph was taken by a homeless boy in California. A reader on SomethingAwful gave a small point and shoot camera to the boy, then told him he could keep the camera if the boy returned the photos he snapped.

The photos provide an interesting glimpse into the daily life of a child without a home. Most of the photography won't win any awards, although I thought the black and white shots were surprisingly good for a kid. Link

Hmmm ... I realized I probably just picked one of the least appealing pictures of the bunch. A reflection of my addiction to the piano I guess ;)

Why would someone go through the trouble to fake the story? And if they did try to fake it, I would have expected more sensationalized photos (e.g. pictures of other homeless kids, druggies, etc.).

The kid didn't necessarily live on the streets (often hopped from friend's home to friend's home), so it's likely that he didn't need the money THAT bad. He was probably just appreciative of someone doing something nice for him, and for a fun diversion.

Did anyone here see the documentary (forget the name) of the woman who gave cameras to children in India born in brothels (come to think of it, that might have been the name of the show.) These poor, status-less, uneducated children took some photographs that were truly amazing...and ended up opening doors to a better life.

I've seen Born into Brothels. Believe it or not, Blockbuster stocks it - they even "featured" it for awhile.

It is a brilliant documentary. Don't be afraid of being offended by the prostitution in the movie; it is almost non-existent in the film.

The film is all about these kids - some of them intellectual giants, others just normal - and how they perceive the world around them.

Fantastic.
