Atlas of World Religions

here to read the article.

Anyone else surprised by the data represented on the atlas?

I was rather surprised that Russians had little religious affiliation 15 years after the USSR dissolved, and that only Western Chinese were predominantly Buddhist.

Norway is 70% undecided/atheist/agnostic, and those who call themselves christian state that christianity has little or no influence in their day to day lives.

Yet, this map says I'm a christian protestant. Interesting. I guess I'll have to go think things over :)

Cool map, but not very accurate and kind of misleading.

Re: the number of undecided/agnostic/aetheist....I always wonder if people feel like a bolt of lightning will strike them if they don't answer "christian" on an anonymous survey.

On the map I was disappointed to see various sects grouped into larger units but I suppose I understand. But I wonder if "other christian" makes less sense than Sunni/Shiite?

Well, though I tend to ponder the same sort of things as Kristian, I'm just glad that they separated Catholicism, Protestantism and included Agnosticism. I'm always aghast at how many textbooks group Christianity and other religions into almost meaningless lump sums.

I wouldn't even go as far as calling that a rough estimate. If the number of synagogues springing up in my area alone is anything to go by, I would say that the Jewish population is stronger than .2%. I bet it's some sort of cloaking scam to hide there numbers haha.

Well, they can't all be right!! If the many theories on the origins of life and our universe can be mapped out like languages, they should be treated with the greatest skepticism. However I would bet that, in the same conditions, an experiment would deliver exactly the same results in San Francisco as in Medina: religion divides us, science unites us!
