Faces of the Dead in Iraq

The New York Times has posted pictures of every US service member that has died in the Iraq war. Each little square represents one person and collectively makes up the image of one of the service members. The squares are ordered by date of death with the most recent deaths appearing in the upper left corner. Link – via Linkfilter

Amazing! What are the odds that if you line up 3000 people in order and arranged them into a square, that the composite would perfectly match that of another person?

Yes - that was actually my first thought (at first, I thought this was one of those pictures where each square is a picture in itself) ... then I realized, still not thinking rationally:

"Wait, how could have so many black soldiers all died in a row (where the visor is)? This should be evidence for an investigation!"

Turns out that each square is just a single pixel, with 1 color, representative of the soldier. I guess this makes sense ...

I know, hard to believe I actually have a college education.

Someone should do the same basic thing i.e. pictures of soldiers that have died in this war, and make a photomosaic of George W.Bush.

I was too, and why is Phil the special one who gets to be the main picture?

If you click on the faces of each soldier their picture appears.

I think this is fantastic; a simple reminder of how wrong we really are.

Sure, it's a cute idea, until you find your loved one hiding in someone else's nostril.
