Avatar Plays Virtual Ping Pong.
German scientists have designed a virtual reality system that allows humans to play ping pong against an avatar:
While most virtual reality environments support slow- or medium-speed user interaction, the new table tennis simulation can realistically respond to the top ball speed of most non-professionals—up to 15 meters per second.
Fish Therapy.
From the website:
You’ve heard of the figurative phrase "cat got your tongue". How about the literal phrase "fish got your skin"?
That’s what Residents of southwestern Chongqing are experiencing as a local hotspring introduced fish therapy this week.
Visitors to the hot spring are placed in a gentle bath filled with many tiny fish.
The small fish used in the treatment are then believed to eat the dry skin humans normally shed, thus enabling them to heal some skin diseases.

Lakes of Liquid Methane in Titan.
Radar imaging data from the Cassini flyby confirmed the existence of oceans and lakes of liquid methane on Saturn’s moon Titan:
The lakes, darker than the surrounding terrain, are emphasized here by tinting regions of low backscatter in blue. Radar-brighter regions are shown in tan. The strip of radar imagery is foreshortened to simulate an oblique view of the highest latitude region, seen from a point to its west.

Diamond Star.
A while ago, astronomers have discovered a star made of 10 billion trillion trillion carats of diamond!
The huge cosmic diamond – technically known as BPM 37093 – is actually a crystallised white dwarf. A white dwarf is the hot core of a star, left over after the star uses up its nuclear fuel and dies. It is made mostly of carbon.
For more than four decades, astronomers have thought that the interiors of white dwarfs crystallised, but obtaining direct evidence became possible only recently.
The white dwarf is not only radiant but also rings like a gigantic gong, undergoing constant pulsations.
"By measuring those pulsations, we were able to study the hidden interior of the white dwarf, just like seismograph measurements of earthquakes allow geologists to study the interior of the Earth.
"We figured out that the carbon interior of this white dwarf has solidified to form the galaxy’s largest diamond," says Metcalfe.
Last Words of Famous People.
A huge compilation of famous last words. Here are Darwin’s last words:
"I am not the least afraid to die."
Charles Darwin’s study of the diversity of animal species led him to conclude that living things evolve from a process of natural selection. In 1859, following the publication of his book, On the Origin of Species, he and his work were attacked by religious fundamentalists who realized the British naturalist’s theory dealt a fatal blow to the Christian belief in literal biblical creation. Twelve years later, when he published The Descent of Man and applied his theory to humans, the assault intensified. In 1882, Darwin died peacefully in bed after speaking with his son.
In 1985, Jimmy Swaggart, an American televangelist, told his enthralled listeners that Darwin had a change of heart on his deathbed, renounced his scientific works, and asked for a Bible so that he could learn to love Jesus. Apparently this tale stems from a lie told by the wife of Admiral of the Fleet Sir James Hope to seminary students in 1882. She claimed that she was with Darwin at the end and that he professed "How I wish I had not expressed my theory of evolution as I have done!" Further, she added that he begged her to gather an audience so he could "speak to them of Christ Jesus and His salvation. . . ." Darwin’s daughter soon debunked this fabrication, reporting that "Lady Hope was not present during his last illness, or any illness. I believe he never even saw her, but in any case she had no influence over him in any department of thought or belief. He never recanted any of his scientific views, either then or earlier. . . . The whole story has no foundation whatever."

Polyorama Box.
Remember the "endless landscape" or polyorama we had before on Neatorama? Here’s something like it, in form of square boxes:
a 2 inch square die-cut and scored box on heavy card (400gsm) it comes flat with labels for people to print their own images and words to stick on the faces – we’ve recently produced some packs people can buy to create their own sets of illustrated/photo or text cubes.
