The photos...are in WEST frame. Too West...too America.
...So, the title should be:

"13 Photographs That Changed the WEST"

While the collection was uploaded more than 3 years ago, and was a great job; -- all of them did not change the world. e.g. Vietcong shooting and others. Definitely excellent fotos indeed-- speaks of the greta fotographers.
I wonder whether any of the things changed the world at all!!!
Whether fotos change the world or not -- one can add
1) the "bombs" dropping on Japan by the most civilized nations;
2) the tank-facing-youth at Tianenman square.
3) Pepetuators and practitioners of Apartheid in SA

HAS THE WORLD CHANGED AT ALL?
Individual citizens have changed -- but "ego-perpetuating" Govts. will never allow change.

Very appealing collection. However, I think the Green eyed photograph of the Afgan girl(1985) could have been listed here.

This is a rather strange selection for 'Photographs that Changed the World'.

Where's Capa's 'Fallen Republican Soldier' http://ow.ly/2kb0i That's a much more influential photograph than his D-Day one.

Ansel Adams's 'Teton River' is a great photograph. But 'Earthrise' http://ow.ly/2kb2r did way, way more to boost the Environmental movement. Some people say it's the greatest photograph ever taken. Why has it been left out?

How can you possibly say that the image of the dead Che Guevara has had more influence that 'Guerrillero Heroico'? http://ow.ly/2kb5f Hardly anyone knows the image you show here, whereas Korda's portrait has probably been seen by more than half the people in the world, and has had a huge influence.

And how the heck has that fake photo of the Loch Ness Monster changed the world?

Some pretty rubbish choices if I may politely say so.

Laura30032010 #296, I couldn't have said it better. I read all of the text under the pictures and would recommend some of you do the same. You might learn why these are 13 Photos That Changed The World. It doesn't say the only 13 Photos That Changed The World.

Many comments were complaints that the United States citizens think they are the only influence in the world. Quite the contrary, in our history books we learn all about the British Empire, the Roman Empire, the French Empire, the Spanish Empire and the German Empire. Now there are 5 countries that really changed the world and conquered weaker countries. Try to remember that no government is perfect or benevolent.

I am amazed at how the comments have developed on this thread.

I stumbled upon this site and have spent my day flicking back and forth onto this site to read the comments. Some have been so intolerably narrow-minded that it astounds me. In the end, the strongest point of a photograph is its ability to hold a mirror up to our actions and present a pictorial statement that otherwise could, and has been, ignored.

The people who have commented for a shock reaction, I'm not even going to respond to. Obviously life has never dealt you any true blows, or indeed maturity levels, otherwise the words you have the audacity to write would not even enter your mind.

For those commenting on the American bias, I would suggest that there was no intention by the author to make anyone feel excluded or inferior. Moreover, these were the photographs that came to mind personally when creating the post. Wouldn't it be better to post your own images? Then leave the link in the comments... I'd be thoroughly interested in seeing more of these world-changing photographs, and I thank those who have left more stories and images in their comments.

If I asked one person to name all of the countries in the world, I would hazard a guess that they'd struggle. However collectively, I am sure everyone would be able to input countries at a time until the collection was complete. So rather than scream one person down for forgetting, or not acknowledging something you find to be obvious, perhaps present it yourself in a way that doesn't belittle what has gone before.

Finally, thank you to the author of the post for this collection of images, and for those who have submitted other interesting images. I have really enjoyed the journey through them and hope that rather than get embroiled in racist, ignorant and unintelligent arguments, others will see how utterly compelling some images can be, regardless of their origin.

Good god, if these images suggest one thing it's that the world can continue to change for the better if we just have a little less hatred for others.

I like the fact that pictures were taken, may it be ordinary or for a moment of discovery. I hope people will realized that today is nothing without the history

As a history buff and teacher I found this very interesting. There are some great choices. I know you can't put them all in one spot but the Americana factor was more than a bit down the throat. Here is one of my favourite Canadian photos... Most of the world knows we fought i wars, it's those darn Americans that are so hard to convince ; )

It is so crazy what pictures can do to chang us and the world about what has happened. I just learned in English about the concntration camps and how people are scared of the places. It is really sad to hear what happened to those people. I am surprised there is not a picture of those camps.

you all are a bunch of complainers, this list is not titled "the 13 photos that changed the world more than any other photos", nor does it say it is from a world point of view as opposed to an american point of view. It is simply "13 photos that changed the world" which they undeniably are. Yes, every one of these pictures changed the world, as did many many powerful pictures some included here. If this were a top ten list, it would say so in the title. Quit living your life pointing out everyones faults and, simply enjoy or be moved by these pictures and the stories that surround them. If you don't like the list make your own list!

Thanks, great list! I too found it US-centric, as some have pointed out, but still very thought-provoking. My Vietnam pick would have been My Lai, though (to those who suggested Nick Ut's photo of the little napalmed girl: it's a stunning photo, of course, but it came some years after the above pic and the My Lai photos had already turned the tide of public opinion in America). Like many others, I would have included earthrise, and the Tiananmen guy. And Abu Ghraib.

I don't understand why you are attacking the author of this article for not including some of the photos you like. He made his selection and did a great job explaining the cotext. But of course the are thousands of others that could be included

Einstein contributed little to quantum physics, in fact he often locked horns with Neils Bohr over it and tried to trip Bohr up but failed. His famous "God does not play dice" remark was due to his unease with the quantum entanglement effect.
