Later that day, all the other boys in his class beat the piss out of Robin.

Once he hits puberty he’s screwed.

    What talent!
…and maybe not screwed (literally too) if he becomes a castrati!

It’s not THAT great. A lot of 13 year old girls could sing this as well as he does. So, the question is: Are you impressed just because it’s a boy? I’m not.

No, young boys’ voices are a lot different than the voices of young girls. Is there a Vienna Girls Choir?
The reason is that boys’ voices enter into a special richness of tone and range before and during the time when their voice changes. It has a high range and unique color, different from any other age (or sex). This is why so many composers wrote especially for them.

Umm. No. What you say is crap. There have never been “a lot” of people of either sex who can sing this aria.

I hope he can develop his male singing voice when he hits puberty, otherwise he can say goodbye to singing.

Jenny is right, and this young man is definitely talented, but screwed when he hits puberty, unless he becomes one of the castrato.

And moon, I’d like to see you hit those notes.

All these people saying he’s had it when he hits puberty don’t know what they’re talking about. A boy’s voice isn’t ruined when it breaks, and many boy soprani continue to develop their voices during and after puberty. They will have already received a great deal of training by that time and this keeps their voices strong during the break. I was a treble as a boy, and am now a tenor; though there was no way I could have sung like Robin here when I was his age. It’s not his range that’s impressive as much as his tone control - there are some very difficult intervals in that piece. Bravo!
