Ice Hotel.

The ICEHOTEL is an actual hotel made out of ice! It’s located in the village of Jukkasjärvi in the Arctic Circle in Sweden. Guests sleep on blocks of ice; needless to say, staying there is an adventure:

After a day of adventure, nightfall approaches quickly. The outdoor temperature drops and when you step inside ICEHOTEL, you feel a rush of warm air. Inside, the temperature is never colder than -5 °C to -8 °C, regardless of how cold it may be outside. It will soon be time to climb into bed. Dress in warm thermal underwear, put on a hat and slip into the cozy sleeping bag. Share the whole surrealistic ice-night with someone special.

We visited the “Snowhotel” in Kemi, Finland a few years ago:

it was sponsored by Finlandia Vodka. Apparently one needs a good stiff drink to spend the night on ice! The beds were covered in reindeer pelts and, while a bit stiff, weren’t terribly cold, even though it was one of the coldest days of our trip (in February).

ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi Sweden is the original (since 1989) and the largest icehotel in the world. The photos featuring this article (above) are of the ice hotel in Canada…
