Al Hirschfeld Draws Paul Newman.

When Al Hirschfeld was 99 years old, he drew Paul Newman in caricature (the process took 8 hours!). Here’s a clip from the documentary film The Line King by Susan Dryfoos.

What a cool way to live at 99! Still drawing all the time and living in his own house. Amazing that his hands were still steady, too...

For those who enjoyed this, I strongly recommend the Jacques Rivette film "La Belle Noiseuse" (1990) starring Michel Piccoli and Emmanuelle Béart. Watching the creation of a masterpiece painting from early sketches to final painting, long stretches of it in real time looking over the shoulder as the artist draws and explores his subject.
