Good stories, but one small kibitz: not all of these people are biologists, as your title implies.

“Fewer have heard of Rosalind Franklin, unless they’ve heard about the Nobel controversy.”

You left out the “juciest” piece of the controversy. W&C broke into RF’s office and stole her data before she had time to analyze it and make it public. The data wasn’t a simple picture of molecule it was an abstract pattern that required mathematical analysis to understand. Those men are ignoble larcenists who don’t deserve to be Nobel laureates. If they hadn’t commited their crime, Rosalind would probably have been credited as the sole discoverer of the structure of DNA.

Good collection - I hadn’t heard of the Hayflick one - very interesting.

I’m familiar with the Rosalind Franklin story. Another sad part is that it was most likely her research with x-rays that led to her ovarian cancer. They didn’t wear lead shields in those days.
