    How about the flaking lead paint and rusty nails? Looks snuggy.

    There are very strict requirements (voluntary?) for crib materials and for a very good reason. Kids chew on everything. You have to be careful what material it's made out of so it is completely non-toxic, doesn't splinter, etc. That would tend to rule out "junk" wood like shipping pallets. Many woods are also toxic, like walnut and south-american and african woods. Also the finish has to be carefully thought-out.
