Sona Babai, a 105-year-old mother of 10 from Iran, pledged her allegiance to the flag yesterday and became a US citizen.

Asked what she would do as a new citizen, Babai replied: "I’m an American. I’m going to vote."

A fascinating article from the LA Times: Link

The good news: Congratulations! You are now an American. It’s nice that you want to vote. Most Americans don’t bother.

The bad news: You must be registered 15 days prior to election date per California election law. So if you hurry now, you can vote in the 2008 general election, when you are 107.

It’s sad the things so many of us take for granted.
