Sikorsky Skycrane.

We had a picture of the Sikorsky Skycrane [wiki] lifting a container from a beached ship before. Turns out that the helicopter can lift just about anything: tanks, airplanes, and even a house! Link – Thanks aberron!

I saw one of these monsters lift the statue that sits atop the US Capitol from the ground to its more traditional home. It was hidden behind the Capitol building and when it took off, I couldn’t figure out what that tremendous sound was! Soon I saw it – the blades were wider than the dome and it looked like a bug invasion over Washington DC!

not a sikorsky, but who can forget this image of a russian chopper airlifting a giant block of ice containing (as it turned out, portions of) a wooly mammoth?

I grew up next to an ANG base in Connecticut and these things (along with A-10′s) were a common sight flying above my neighborhood.

I also watched the Air-Crane lift the statue of Freedom to the top of the Capitol dome – it was in 1993. Here’s a video I made of the lift:

I may sound pretty dumb but wouldn’t the roof rip right off?
