		<description>This is an interesting and mildly educational article, but it reveals our modern arrogance.  Those crazy bumblers of centuries past!  How could they be so silly?    Not completing the voyage?  What a bumbler to die enroute and lose 4 of 5 ships on an incredibly difficult journey like that!

At least the title implies that we love them inspite of their bumbling ignorance.
