    This is an interesting and mildly educational article, but it reveals our modern arrogance. Those crazy bumblers of centuries past! How could they be so silly? Not completing the voyage? What a bumbler to die enroute and lose 4 of 5 ships on an incredibly difficult journey like that!

    At least the title implies that we love them inspite of their bumbling ignorance.

    P.S. I love Neatorama inspite of these occasional bumbling pieces…

    There’s some old explorer guy who was sailing around the Great Lakes, heard the roar of Niagara Falls, and for some reason never bothered to investigate. How could any explorer worth a damn ignore that?
