Rocky’s Back!

By Alex in Art, Travel on Sep 9, 2006 at 4:52 am

From the website:

Forget Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago. Rocky’s greatest victory was against the Philadelphia Arts Commission.

After months of debate, the commission finally voted in favor of returning an eight-and-a-half-foot statue of the Italian Stallion to the grounds of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, though not atop the steps the big-screen boxer–and thousands of inspired tourists–so famously climbed.

Just in time for Rocky Balboa the movie, which hits theaters in December!

It is absurdly kitch, yet then again why not, The general masses find anything in bronze as true art, it relates to a movie…even better, and to the place in the movie….even even better… and hence they trust and go inside to see the “real art”.
There is sadly to much crap in this world, but when it comes to art there is even more crap, however due to the general publics desperation to find art incomprehensible instead of using simple logic, I think in the end the rocky sculpture is a great bridge between the conventional and the contemporary.

D*mmit. We banished this thing to the sports arena once. This tourism thing’s just not working.
