Hummingbird Hawkmoth.

A fantastic photo of a hummingbird hawkmoth (macroglossum stellatarum) by flickr user janerc. Link [flickr] - via nutmeg

I'm very used to hummingbirds (in Mexico), but I was amazed then I though I saw one in Barcelona. It flies exactly like hummingbirds but this have antenas, so I knew it was an insect. I took a series of pictures of it, but they were not as clear and beautiful like this.

I saw my first hummingbird moth last week in Eastern Oregon. I was absolutely fascinated by it when I thought it was a hummingbird. Completely captured when I noticed it was an insect. I watch a lot of discovery channel. This one must have escaped me. That's a wonderful photograph

I saw this amazing little creature in my back garden. East Sussex, England. I've never seen one of these moths before, to be honest I didn't know they exsisted. I hope it returns as i now have a camera by my back door!

Spotted the very same Macroglossum Stellatarum as shown above, hovering above my Carnations it stayed long enough for me to fetch my camera & take a dozen pics, I understand it is common in sunnier climes around Europe...but I live on the West Coast of Ireland!Great for flying a Kite but not sun bathing! Is this yet more evidence of Global Warming?
If I can see these delightfull little creatures on a regular basis, I sure hope so
