Many people in my area (far northern NY state) screen in their garages…my mom uses hers as an extended porch and likes to sit and read in her garage. In summer garages can be the coolest spot in the yard; also many people spend a Saturday tinkering in the garage or house a workshop there…it’s not so strange to want to avoid mosquitoes for the duration.

In my neighborhood in Southern California a lot of the men congregate in each others garages to drink, smoke, talk and otherwise get away from their families for awhile. Some take it to the extreme and turn their garages into their “den’ complete with TV, recliner and ‘fridge. We don’t have a bad mosquito problem here but this screen would keep out a lot of pests.

Doesn’t seem weird to me - a lot of people use their garages as a workshop and want to open the door for ventilation when using chemicals. I’m another SoCal type so skeeters aren’t such a problem, but that screen looks like it would be pretty good at keeping out bees, birds and such.

I know folks who keep the garage door open in the summer because otherwise it gets unbearably hot in there.
