Ice Spike.

Posted by Alex in Science & Tech on August 4, 2006 at 8:20 pm

Ever got an ice spike when making ice using those ice cube trays? Ever wonder why they happen and how to make more of them? Ken Libbrecht of Caltech has the answer:

To see your own ice spikes, make ice cubes in an ordinary ice cube tray, in an ordinary household freezer, but using distilled water, which you can buy in most supermarkets for about a dollar a gallon. We’ve tried several different freezers, and almost always got some ice spikes to grow.

Bag Made from Juice Boxes.

Posted by Alex in Fashion on August 4, 2006 at 5:34 pm

From the website:

These bags are the product of a local Los Angeles designer teaming up with a women’s group in the Philippines. Most of these juice pouches are collected from the elementary schools attended by the women’s children. The pouches are sanitized and then sewn in their homes.

Jeeeep, the Cute Hermaphroditic Dog with Two Noses.

Posted by Alex in Animal, Pictures on August 4, 2006 at 5:33 pm

Remember Duo, the two-nosed dog we saw previously on Neatorama? Well, Neatorama reader Brenda wrote about Jeeeep, her half-Chihuahua half-Fiest/Rat terrier, who also has two noses!

I for one do not think that Duo is a freak!!! His nose just makes him special, I have a female dog that is half Chihuahua and half rat fiest that has two noses and I think it is adorable. I have attached a picture of her, her name is Jeeeep, and she has more energy than any dog that I have ever seen. Jeeeep was also both male and female when she was born, when I picked her up from being spayed the vet told me that she had both full male (found inside) and female organs. Everyone in my house and out of my house just love her to death.

Thanks Brenda!

The Cat with Two Names (and Faces!)

Posted by Alex in Animal, Pictures on August 4, 2006 at 5:31 pm

Meet Frank and Louie, the cat with two names:

The cat has two mouths, two noses and two working eyes. A third eye in the middle is not functional. Marty named her cat “Frank and Louie” so each face would have a name. Only one mouth, the one on the cat’s right side — or Frank’s side — is connected to an esophagus, so Frank gets all the food.

Drinking and Watching Sword Swallowing Act Don't Mix.

Posted by Alex in Everything Else, Medicine on August 4, 2006 at 5:30 pm

From the website:

Serb Ratko Dankovic, 23, had been drinking Rakia with mates while watching a magician perform a sword swallowing trick on the television.

They then started arguing over how the trick was done, and when Dankovic told mates that sword swallowing was easy and anyone could do it – they challenged him to prove it.

But he had to be rushed to the local hospital after swallowing a knife with an eight inch blade, eight nails, two spoons and a couple of clothes pegs to win the ten pound bet.

The Cutest Car EVAR!

Posted by Alex in Car & Vehicle on August 4, 2006 at 12:39 am

Meet the recreation of Suzuki’s first car: the 1955 Suzulight two-seater:

A charming re-creation of Suzuki’s first car, the 1955 Suzulight, the LC microcar has space for only two people inside its two-door, 10.5-foot-long body. The split-level cabin with plaid seats is decidedly minimalist, but the detailing throughout the car is fantastic. Suzuki’s three-cylinder, 660-cc minicar engine is under the hood. It’s just the car for zipping through Tokyo’s crowded streets.

Catch Your Own Food Restaurant.

Posted by Alex in Food & Drinks on August 4, 2006 at 12:38 am

From the website:

At the restaurant Zauo you can help yourself, no really, you HAVE to help yourself.

“If you want it you first have to catch it.”

The middle of the restaurant is shaped like a boat and there are plenty of rooms alongside where catching can be a satisfying if unnerving experience for those will little experience fishing.
