I have a friend of mine that went to Africa and came back with a pair of goodyear sandals, very cool. he loved them and they lasted forever, I suppose a human foot puts a lot less wear & tear on the tread than a car does.
I know this image was in the economist magazine in the last 2 or 3 years – in a article on African poverty. It may have been the cover but I’m not sure
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the Viet Cong used rubber from tires to make sandals during our war over there.

How young are you people? Don’t you remember the tire tread sandles from the late ’70′s? I had a pair and I lived in the middle of bumf*ck Iowa.
