Wolphin: Dolphin & False Killer Whale Hybrid.

Posted by Alex in Animal on June 20, 2006 at 1:03 am

A wolphin is a rare hybrid animal, formed from the cross between a female bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) and a male false killer whale (Pseudorca crassidens).

The wolphin’s size, colour and shape are intermediate between the parent species. Named Kekaimalu, she has 66 teeth – intermediate between a bottlenose (88 teeth) and false killer whale (44 teeth).

The only two wolphins in captivity currently live at the Sea Life Park in Hawaii.
