I just got my first UV tattoo this evening. I did research on it and came to the conclusion that 10-15 years ago it was dangerous, but here in the 21st century, if you get a UV tattoo in the USA, its not any more dangerous than a regular tat. I've talked to plenty of tattoo artists. as for agreement with Jenna above ^ ... There's more cases of people getting cancer that were non smokers and drinkers. Hell if you got a transformer outside your house your more likely to get cancer. I will however retract this statement if I end up with skin cancer on my arm. I also hope it doesn't scar

Hey...I really want a tattoo but because I am goin to be working in a children's hospital (and not to mention my parents would KILL me, I can't have one that shows during the day (i.e. any kind of tattoo with normal ink) it has bummed me out for so long. I have been doing little fake ones with my blacklight pen for years..never knew they had blacklight tattoos.. anyway, I would love to hear from anyone who has one and where the safest place to get them is. Let me know. thanks.

Heya o have a question about tis ink. I am currently intrested in getting a tattoo with this ink , but theres one thing that i cant find an answer to given that the ink glows till i die (presuming) what happenes during the day in the picture above it looks really cool during the night bt during the day will it be visible? i dont want it to clash with my work... would be really helpfull if someone can answer

Me -- Where did you buy your ink and what brand? I currently trust the only FDA approved (for animals) brand of UV ink marketed as "Chameleon Ink" by CrazyChameleon.com. I wonder if it's a burnt patent and other's are copying the formula now (the technology is at least 11 years old) Nova - Do some research... "that company" is very ambiguous and doesnt tell the reader anything... CrazyChameleon markets a chemical known as BIOMETRIX System-1000, but marketed only by Crazy Chameleon (that i know of). If you DID do research you'd see that this is NOT radioactive, but a highly specialized form of encapsulated UV pigment in PMMA (a biologically safe chemical (AKA Plexiglass)) and NOT PHOSPHORS or radioactive inks. -- and before anyone cries about the "FDA Approved for Animals" statement... let me clarify that its approved for animals YOU EAT... not just giraffes and rhinos... So yes... if you want one, get one... and feel good about it.

Dudes, watch out! the company that makes glow ink (for tattoos) has a disclaimer removing them from any responsobility. the reason for this is that there is a chemical in it that (which makes it glow) that can also be found in some types of house paints. it also has low level radioacivity, oh no!, that can cause cancer. just because the other guy hasn't gotten it, doesn't mean that it is safe, just like if you smoke, you aren't garenteed to get lung cancer, but how many people die each year from lung cancer. Also, this type of ink has not been used long enough to determine it's long term effects, and no research has been done as to any other long-term affects which it can have on your body.
but if you want one get one.

ive had blacklight tattoos on my ear and lip since the summer of '04 and neither scarred at all. under white light you cant even tell theyre there. as for cancer risks, my ink is totally safe. i got it tested and checked out by my dad (a chemist) and brought it to 2 universities to have it checked out by some phds. (i bought the ink myself and brought it to a tattoo parlor).

Fortunately, H8, scaring only happens in certain circumstances. I've seen some blacklight tattoos and there was *NO* scaring (or any other indication of a tattoo) visible... at all. If you've seen scaring, it was either too soon after the tattoo was done (which meant it hadn't fully healed yet), fault of the inker (using bad tools or bad skillz) or the inkee (didn't allow it to heal properly). But please don't blame it on the ink.

I don't like the look of it in day light, or normal viewing. Gives the looks of major scaring. Old news though, I've known about uv ink for a little over a year or so now. It just wasn't approved, so only well known friends of tattoo artists could run the risk of cancer...
