Koi carp with this sort of ‘face’ made up of colouring and shadows on their snout are known as “jinmengyo” in Japan. (“Jin”=person, “men”=face, “gyo”=fish)
I’ve found that it’s often the golden ones with black shading that have a face like this.
I suppose it was selective breeding that brought upon this trait in Koi.
Fascinating.
However, I just can’t believe that’s not a photoshop job. It just reminds me too much of the fish scene in Monty Python’s “The Meaning of Life”:
